Samsung was accused of limiting the performance of certain apps on his smartphone. The South Korean company would have installed a system application called Game Optimization Service (GOS) in its smartphones which limits the performance of applications. In a series of posts, Twitter user @GaryeonHan said over 10,000 apps are apparently restricted by Samsung through GOS. Apps in the list include google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, FacebookTikTok, Amazon, Twitter, Chrome, Netflix, Disney+ among others.
Samsung responded to the question and released a statement on the impact of GOS on Galaxy S22 series phones. Samsung claims that GOS optimizes the performance of the device’s CPU and GPU to prevent excessive overheating during long games. However, it will release a software update to provide a performance priority option in the game booster lab within the game launcher app as soon as possible.

We would like to inform you about the Galaxy S22 GOS. Salvation. It’s Samsung Electronics. We continue to listen to our customers to expand our users and options, and to deliver optimal performance. GOS (Game Optimizing Service) of Samsung Galaxy S22 series is a built-in application that optimizes CPU and GPU performance to avoid excessive overheating during a long game. In order to meet the needs of various customers recently, we plan to implement a software update that provides a performance priority option in the game booster lab within the game launcher application as soon as possible. We will continue to listen to consumers’ opinions and do our best for consumer satisfaction and protection. Thank you.
Samsung isn’t the first company to face performance throttling accusations. Last year, OnePlus also faced similar accusations when it was found to be throttling some popular Android apps. OnePlus justified its decision by saying it was optimizing apps to better manage battery life and heating issues.
