People’s spending on mobile apps hit a new high again in 2021, according to Store Intelligence data from research firm Sensor Tower. The data reveals that the top 100 non-gaming subscription-based apps saw their revenue increase by 41% year-on-year, from $13 billion (about Rs 97,572 crore) to 18, $3 billion (approximately Rs. 1,37,300 crore) across the globe. The top 100 earning apps generated about 14% of the $131.6 billion people spent on in-app purchases last year in non-gaming apps and mobile games. This represents an increase of around 11.7% in 2020, according to the Sensor Tower report.
As of the fourth quarter of 2021, 86 of the top 100 highest-earning apps worldwide offered subscriptions, the research firm said. This figure was down from 87% in the fourth quarter of 2020 and 89% in the fourth quarter of 2019. The report also indicates that leading subscription apps saw more than double spending on the App Store and Google Play Store . The top 100 non-gaming apps with a subscription model generated $13.5 billion (about Rs. 1,01,300 crore) in 2021, a 31% year-on-year increase from to 2020. While the top subscription apps on the Google Play Store saw greater growth, the top apps on the App Store saw spending nearly triple compared to last year.

BEST APPS FOR CONSUMER SPENDING WORLDWIDE
Among the top apps that made the most money through their subscription models, YouTube emerged at the top overall and on Apple App Store. Google One was the best app on Google Play Store. Here are the top apps, by overall revenue, Apple App Store revenue, and Google Play Store revenue:
