HBO Max is rolling out new desktop and mobile apps, promising subscribers a performance boost in time for the highly anticipated House of the Dragon series.
HBO Max recently launched new desktop and mobile apps in time for the upcoming release of game of thrones spin off Dragon House.
According to a press release released by the streaming platform, the updated HBO Max apps will be available on desktop computers, iOS and Android mobile devices, and Amazon Fire tablets. They are designed to provide subscribers with a “significantly” improved user experience, and key features include the addition of random button functionality on mobile devices, expanded SharePlay support and functionality, more intuitive navigation and a refined user interface, and a “dedicated home” for downloaded content. The HBO Max apps also feature better tablet support for landscape and portrait viewing orientations, and greater stability when used in tandem with Chromecast.
HBO Max’s overhaul of its existing apps is welcome news at a time when the streamer is plagued by largely negative headlines. Notably, the recent decision by Warner Bros. to cancel the HBO Max exclusivity bat girl Shocked fans and industry insiders, with conflicting reports citing everything from bad test screening comments to tax deductions, are the reason the film was scrapped. Warner Bros. subsequently issued a statement attributing bat girltackles the studio’s revised vision for the DC Cinematic Universe. “The decision not to release bat girl reflects the strategic shift in our leadership with respect to the DC Universe and HBO Max,” the statement read in part.
HBO Max in turmoil?
Next bat girlde, new reports have revealed that HBO Max is moving away from scripted content, Warner Bros. Discovery set to lay off 70% of its development staff. At the time, sources close to the media conglomerate backed up those claims, saying the motivation behind the alleged staff cuts was to streamline operations so that only HBO has a dedicated development team. Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav apparently disputed those rumors during a recent interview, insisting that the company plans to increase spending on HBO Max. “Quality is what [Chief Content Officer] Casey [Bloys] and this team delivers. It’s the best team in the business. We’re dubbing this HBO team,” he said.
More recently, shares of Warner Bros. Discovery fell 12% after the company announced it had missed its Q2 2022 earnings estimate and confirmed a decline in its overall direct-to-consumer subscriber base. The company reported revenue of $9.8 billion for the quarter and a loss of $3.4 billion. These results mark the first full quarter numbers released since the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc.
