There are different screen sizes and resolutions, which means my display sizes may differ from yours. However, Windows has a built-in feature called scaling.

It allows you to configure font size, app display, resolution, and other visual content. However, you may encounter some difficulties with this feature in some applications.

It is therefore essential to understand what to do if certain applications do not respond to scaling changes. Likewise, we will see how to fix scaling issues in Windows 10/11.

Why is custom scaling not recommended?

Custom scaling seems like a good option for people with vision difficulties and those who want to relieve eye strain.

However, custom scaling in some applications or software may cause issues such as the font not being able to read or distortions. This is because some screens are designed not to support the scaling feature. So, forcing custom scaling can merge text clipping and fonts.

Why do some apps not respond to scaling changes?

1. Unsupported scaling feature: Some applications do not support custom scaling features by default. This means that the developers did not allow users to adjust its display quality. Therefore, it will not adapt to the system settings. Additionally, the application may not respond to scaling changes if the display font and resolution are not set to accommodate the change.
2. Outdated Windows/Display Drivers: Windows uses drivers to operate and control display graphics hardware. However, if this driver becomes old and outdated, it may cause difficulties with some applications. Also, outdated Windows can affect your computer. This can prevent it from working with some apps and cause Windows 11 scaling issues.
3. Deprecated app: The problem isn’t just with the device if some apps aren’t responding to scaling changes. However, some apps misbehave when out of date and can cause them to not respond to scaling changes you set.

How to Fix Apps Not Responding to Scaling Changes?

1. Close and relaunch the application

An app can malfunction if something goes wrong or there is a problem launching it. However, some apps don’t respond to scaling changes until you close and reopen them.

So, close and relaunch the app to see if the “apps not responding to scaling changes” issues persist.

2. Update graphics drivers

1. press the the Windows + R buttons simultaneously to request the Run Dialog.
2. Type the following in the search box: devmgmt.mscthen click on the OKAY button.
3. In the search results, click Screenshot taken.
4. Select the driver in the drop-down menu and right click on it.
5. Click it Update driver Software option, then select Automatically searches for updated driver software.

3. Update apps that aren’t responding to scaling changes

1. Launch Microsoft Store.
2. Click on the menu button in the upper right corner of the screen and select Downloads and updates.
3. Go to the application you want to update and click Get updates.

If an update is available for the app, Windows will automatically search for and install it.

How to force display scaling?

1. press the the Windows key + I to launch the Settings app and click on System.
2. Select the Display options.
3. Go to the Scale and layout tab.
4. Click the drop-down button to expand the features you want to adjust.

Restart your computer to save the changes you made.

Is display scaling lower resolution?

Scaling and screen resolution are different features. When you resize your display, it affects the size of what’s on your screen. Resolution relates to image quality. Therefore, display scaling does not affect the pixel count of a resolution.
