Pune, January 11, 2021: Applications designed to illegally use two-wheelers for passenger transport should be shut down immediately, ordered the regional transport office (RTO).
A meeting in this regard was held with the passenger transport companies Uber and Amigo by Zoomcar who requested some time to comply with the order.
Maharashtra Rickshaw Sena President Dr Keshav Nana Kshirsagar wrote a letter to the transport department and organized a protest outside the district collector’s office against the illegal use of two-wheelers for passenger transport. The Department of Transportation had delivered a letter to the cyber police in this regard.
Uber, Amigo by Zoomcar, Rapido and Ola use two-wheelers (bicycles) to transport passengers. These companies have not applied for permission to use two-wheelers for commercial purposes. The transport service did not issue such a license. Private companies carry out illegal activities of transporting passengers on two-wheelers by taking reservations on their apps, officials said.
The regional transportation office sent a letter to the cyber police asking them to immediately shut down the illegal website and enforcement service and take appropriate legal action against them.
Taking note of this letter, Deputy Police Commissioner Vijay Palsule had organized a meeting with these companies. Deputy Regional Transportation Officer Sanjay Sasane, Deputy Regional Transportation Officer Yuvraj Patil, Pawan Nawale, Motor Vehicle Inspector Wadekar and representatives from Uber and Amigo by Zoomcar were in attendance. Representatives of other companies did not attend the meeting.
