Microsoft is investigating a method to make it easier to install Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) on multiple devices using its browser.
The company is testing a way to use Microsoft Edge to simplify the process of installing PWAs on separate devices. The move means that once you have installed a PWA on one device, you will then see an option to install it on other devices with just one click.
This addition could be great news for businesses looking to install and allow employees to run work apps on multiple devices, such as a work laptop used for remote work, or a mobile device or tablet. moving.
Microsoft Edge PWAs
The new feature, spotted by Leo Varela and shared on Reddit, will live in the Applications menu on Microsoft Edge.
PWAs, which are essentially web pages that behave and offer much of the same functionality as native apps, can not only dynamically move to fit mobile or desktop screens, but are also much lighter, more fast and have less impact on battery life.
Once a PWA has been installed on a device, Varela noted, it will now appear in a list of apps available to other devices when connected to the internet on Microsoft Edge. These apps can be installed on the new device with just one click, which greatly simplifies the setup process.
The feature appears to be available to Edge Canary users at the moment, which means a wider rollout could be expected in the coming weeks.
The news follows a similar move by arch-rival Microsoft Edge, as Google Chrome announced it would be working on a new file management API that will allow Chrome PWAs to work with files in the system’s file system. host operating as a native application in May. 2021.
