Google Play Partnerships Director Aditya Swamy said in the blog that there was an 80% increase in consumer spending in 2021 compared to 2019 on Google Play.

“Indian apps and games saw a 200% increase in monthly active users and an 80% increase in consumer spending in 2021 compared to 2019 on Google Play. Local developers are also finding a global audience with Indian apps and games that are seeing a 150% increase in time spent by users outside India in 2021 compared to 2019 on Google Play,” Swamy said.

Swamy said India has reached a milestone of 100 unicorns, and a significant portion of them as app-powered businesses.

He said the country’s enterprising and thriving ecosystem of developers and startups has helped Google Play, which spent 10 years in India, build a vibrant ecosystem of amazing apps across all categories.

“Especially in the past couple of years, we’ve seen apps in categories like education, payments, healthcare, entertainment, and gaming see tremendous growth,” Swamy said.

He said there was also great momentum in the game, with Ludo King becoming one of the first Indian games to cross 500 million downloads.

Swamy said more than 2.5 billion people in more than 190 countries use Google Play each month to discover apps, games and digital content and more than two million developers work with the organization to grow their business. and reach people around the world.
