GOOGLE alerted all Chrome users to a new update today.
Important Google Chrome update fixes 26 vulnerabilities in the popular web browser, one of which is “critical”.
Google Chrome is one of the most widely used browsers in the world.
Billions of people use it, so any bug can have serious consequences.
That’s why Google regularly releases software updates.
Sometimes these add new features, but often they fix security flaws.
This helps prevent hackers from breaking into your device.
Google is currently rolling out the latest version of Chrome.
It is called Chrome 97.0.4692.99 and fixes 26 different issues in the browser.
One of the vulnerabilities – named CVE-2022-0289 – is rated “critical”.
This is the highest rating that Google can assign to a problem with its browser.
How to Update Google Chrome
If automatic updates are enabled, you will probably receive new software soon.
But you can also update manually, giving you the first possible chance of getting the new version.
Go to your Settings menu, then Help, then About Google Chrome.
You will be able to see your current version of Chrome.
So if it says Chrome 97.0.4692.99 or later, you’re fine.
But if you’re using an older version, Chrome should automatically check for updates and highlight them.
Then you can download and install the new version.
You will need to restart your browser after installation is complete to complete the process.
Updating your Google Chrome regularly is important to keep your devices safe.
In fact, making sure all your apps, services, and operating systems are updated regularly is one of the best defenses against hackers.
Cybercriminals prey on software bugs to easily penetrate systems.
So, by sticking to strong passwords and updating them regularly, you greatly reduce your chances of being hacked.
